This was our disposition in October 2022 when we took the bold step into the bustling Ikotun Market in Lagos to onboard our very first customers interested in short-term loans to grow their businesses.

Of course, we weren’t oblivious to the already existing giants in the money lending industry. But here came little David with a faith mightier than all Goliaths. We just believed we could do it, and guess what? We actually did it.

If we say the journey was an easy one, we would be telling a big lie, but stick around while we tell you the story of how it all began.

Our adventure began with Mama Iyabo, an Adire seller; the first woman to actually shake hands with us. Mama Iyabo dreamt of expanding her little Adire store but how could she do that when there were mouths to feed, children to be kept in school, and light bulbs to be kept on? So, when Market Monie arrived on the scene, we proved to be the answer to months of nights lying awake in silent supplication. With a small loan from Market Monie, she transformed her corner of the market into a bustling hub of activity. Her success story quickly spread like wildfire, and soon enough, other traders were clamoring for their own piece of the goodies.

What started with Mama Iyabo quickly snowballed into something much larger. Market Monie’s simple, straightforward loan process and genuine interest in our client’s success made us a beloved part of the market community. From Ikotun, we branched out first to Ikorodu and from there, spreading our wings to other states in Nigeria. As our client base grew, so did our team. Fast forward 2 years, and Market Monie now boasts of over 400 staff members, each one committed to making a difference.

The journey has been certainly not without its challenges. Expanding to multiple states required finding and assembling the right team, navigating local regulations and understanding the unique needs of each market community. But our team’s resilience and adaptability turned obstacles into opportunities. Don’t forget that we were and still are operating with David’s faith!

Along the way, there were plenty of memorable moments.

Like the time Ajao, the most popular butcher in Ikotun Market joined us after being skeptical about Market Monie for a long time. Or when Mama Ibinabo travelled back to Rivers State to share the good news with her folks of how her friend’s business grew exponentially after receiving help from Market Monie. This word of mouth was what initiated our expansion to South-South of Nigeria.

Another memorable moment was the day we crossed the 5,000 mark. Wow! Did we have more than a little victory dance! It was an uproar of joy among the team members.
